1.1 INTRODUCTION
Rabbit play a vital role in bridging the gap between requirements and supply of protein for
human consumption through specific characters such as high adaptability to a wide range of
environment, relative short generation interval, high reproductive rate, disease tolerance and
low production cost which makes management easy compared to cattle, (Adu, 1976). Rabbit
contribute about 24% of Nigeria meat supply (Oni, 2002). And one of the cheapest source of
animal protein because of its high fertility rate and quick maturity traits (Jansen and Burg,
2004).

Ginger (Zingiberofficinale) belongs to the family Zingiberaceae. It is cultivated in the tropical
regions of the world particularly China, India and Philippines. Ginger root has been shown to
contain 10% moisture, 8.5% crude protein, 35% fat, and 2.4% crude fiber, It is a herbaceous
perennial plant which grows annual stems about a meter, it has tall bearing narrow green leaves
and yellow flowers. (Hardon, 2001).The ginger roots are medicinal because they are known to
have antioxidant, androgenic and hypoglycemic activities are reported in different animals
(Hardon, 2001).
